Mission Trip 2008

We went to the long houses in Betong. It was a week long trip. The first few days, we were staying at the Betong Sion Baptist Church but before that was the freezing 6-10 hours bus ride from Miri to Betong. Well the first night at Betong was ok but i had back pains the next day cause we had to sleep on the floors.There was only two toilets at the church. The boys were lucky caused we had a seat while the girls had to squat. The first long house we visited was Jelutong. The people who lived there treated us well and stuffed us with food eventhough we already ate. After Jelutong, we started our journey to the next long house. I forgot the name but i know it starts with a M. We hitched a ride on the back of trucks to get there. During the whole mission trip i actually ate a lot of salted fish. After that, we had to hike to the jetty. The hike was about 2 hours and the boat ride was the quickest way to reach 'Luing' one of the long houses. The boat ride was very fun and cold. For me, Luing was the best long house during the whole trip because it was cool, very comfortable and there's also a river close by. That was my first time i swimmed in a river. Then we continued our journey to Kerapa which was the last long house before we head back to the church. Kerapa was very big and they were very hospitable and they welcomed us like V.I.P's. After Kerapa we headed for church then we went home in the same freezing bus.
